In the post Independence India, in accordance with the policy of formation of states based on language, Maharashtra state was shaped in a new form on 1st May, 1960 based on Marathi language. Brief History of Maharashtra-
The history of Maharashtra is very old- the old mythological Vidarbha kingdom was in current Maharashtra. From Sakas to Guptas of the north and Chalukyas to Rashtrakuta of central south- the land of Maharashtra came under several empires throughout its history.
